What to Expect at REBarCampSouthFL

For those that have never attended a REBarCamp before, you probably have no clue what you are getting yourself into or what in the world a RE Bar Camp even is?? Let me break it down a bit.
REBarCamp stands for Real Estate BarCamp.
According to Wikipedia: BarCamp is an international network of user-generated conferences (or unconferences). They are open, participatory workshop-events, the content of which is provided by participants. The first BarCamps focused on early-stage web applications, and were related to open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats. The format has also been used for a variety of other topics, including public transit, health care, and political organizing.
The real estate industry has adapted these events and thus spawned the REBarCamps.
Essentially it’s a day full of technology driven break out sessions led by other REALTORS® and industry professionals. The topics are put together as the attendees register. You walk in we hand you a piece of paper and if you think you have something interesting to talk about, you just write the topic down and place it on the board in an open time slot.
The schedule board ends up looking something like this…

What to talk about?
It’s up to you! (That’s the cool part.)
Don’t be scared, this is not a time where you will be standing in front of 100 people with a Power Point. This is sitting around a group of maybe 15-30 people chatting about what’s working for you in a casual peer-to-peer manner.
If you are still stuck on a topic, here are some suggestions gathered from past ReBarCamps:
- Facebook Strategy – How to separate business from personal while building relationships with clients and friends.
- Facebook Tech - Creating a page, displaying a like box on your blog, organizing lists, understanding the new updates, privacy concerns.
- Twitter Marketing – What’s the purpose of Twitter for Agents? Really?
- Twitter Tech – Creating an account, WordPress plugins, curation through lists, auto-follow or not, syndication tools.
- Flickr vs. Picasa - Photo sharing social networks for markting properties and farming neighborhoods.
- Video Superstar – How agents are using video to build their brand, market properties, meet new buyers & sellers.
- What’s The Best CRM? - How technology has improved Client Relationship Management Systems.
- Foursquare For Real? – How does being the Mayor of a certain restaurant generate business for agents?
- Getting Yelp Reviews – Why it’s important, and how we encourage clients to give us online reviews.
- WordPress 101 – Building your own blog, .com vs .org, choosing a good theme, getting an idea of what’s involved.
- WordPress Plugins For Real Estate – The best plugins for agents, tech issues, possible conflicts.
- Blogging Basics – Creating a content strategy for a real estate blog that generates business.
- My Favorite Social Network For Real Estate Is….
- iPhone / iPad Applications For Real Estate

- Open House Parade – Let’s organize an home tour on the same day and dominate the web.
- Short Sale Marketing – Best practices for competing with the spammers and under-qualified agents online.
- Property Management Forum – Technology, marketing, accounting, tenant screening, security
If you have experience in any of these areas, or any others please step up and fill out a sticky note when you register in the morning!

Thank you so very much to Sherry Chris and everyone at BHGRE for their sponsorship of REBCSFL! We greatly appreciate their participation in our event!
With the October 2007 announcement of a 50-year agreement to license the Better Homes and Gardens(r) Real Estate brand from Meredith Corporation (NYSE: MDP), Realogy Corporation, a global provider of real estate and relocation services, entered into a new era of service for consumers across the nation.
The result: Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate LLC, a new international residential real estate franchise company with a growing network of the industry’s leading professionals. These agents combine a respect for the tradition of home ownership with an eye on innovation to deliver an exceptional real estate experience. Knowledgeable counsel, strong negotiation skills, and overall excellent customer service experience are the trademarks of the new Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate LLC team.
Complementing this team is www.bhgrealestate.com, your premier online destination for a treasure trove of market and community information, easily accessed and leveraged through the site by you, the consumer. Moreover, the site is also offering “green” information and resources that reflect the rising tide of environmental awareness and wholehearted acceptance of these trends by current and potential home owners. We believe that home with the most value-whether newly built or renovated-is one that takes full advantage of the latest in technology, planning, and common sense, while protecting the environment for years to come.
Consider the foundation upon which our new brand has been built. The Better Homes and Gardens name has been a staple of American life since its inception in 1924. Today, the magazine alone boasts a circulation of 7.6 million and a readership of nearly 40 million, and was named “Magazine of the Year” for 2007 by Advertising Age.
We also have how-to articles ranging from remodeling your home to living “green” available on our “Live” section. That, plus the latest on housing trends, school ratings, community amenities and aids, and overall demographics will ensure that our story is your story, and both are happy ones in the years to come!

REBarCamp South FL is Coming – SAVE THE DATE!

I was fortunate enough to join Danielle Boutin from the Realtors Association of the Palm Beaches and Jeannette Neerpat of CondoDomain to visit the venue where REBarCamp South FL will be held on October 14, 2011.
All I can say is OH. MY. GOSH!!!
The gathering will be held at 1000 Ocean in Boca Raton in the 8,000+ square foot penthouse unit that is also for sale for a cool $15 million. Yes, you read that right. The views from this unit are AMAZING! The unit itself is on the Southeast corner of the building and wraps around to the Southwest side so you have views from every room in the unit (well except the bathrooms – but that goes without saying! LOL). There is a summer kitchen on the balcony too.
The developer at 1000 Oceanwas kind enough to sponsor REBarCamp South FL by donating the space and the valet parking for the event. We hope you can attend and for you out-of-towner’s, this property is adjacent to The Boca Beach Club (part of the Boca Raton Resort) so make it a weekend get-away here on our beautiful Boca Raton Beach.
We are also looking for sponsors. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Jeannette at Jneerpat@gmail.com, Gia at gia@PalmBeachPremierRealEstate.com or Danielle Boutin at dboutin@rapb.com.
By the way, you will want to RSVP to this one as space is limited (and we have to have your name to get you past the guard at the gate). We look forward to seeing you all in the South Florida sunshine in October!
For more information, see our FaceBook Page at REBarCamp South FL.
We cannot wait to see you guys here in South Florida!
Do you like our logo? Thank Dave Bartz

When we were putting this event together I contacted a few of the REBarCamp veterans to find out who could design our logo for us. Jeremy Blanton, Co-Founder of 210 Consulting, Social Media advisors suggested a guy named Dave Bartz and what a great recommendation it was!
I am simply in love with the design he did on our logo and I wanted to make sure to give him the kudos he deserves. From my direction, which was beachy but sophisticated, Dave created this awesome logo!!
Dave was quick, inexpensive and obviously talented so if you are looking for a logo why not give him a try.
You can reach Dave at dsbartz@gmail.com
Tell him you heard of him through REBarCamp South FL!
